I got a couple of Beer Bread* mixes from my Secret Santa gift exchange at work this past Christmas. My wife decided to give one a try today. It was very good! Thought I would pass it on, as it was very quick and easy to make. It turned out to be terrific, although a little strange as far as the “look”. It took on a very strange shape. But don’t let that fool you, it was great!
I’m not a huge bread fan, but I thought it was very tasty. It was moist, slightly heavy and I could taste a hint of beer. You can use any kind of beer. I didn’t have any non-light beer, so I borrowed a Budweiser from my neighbor. Sort of like a modern day cup of sugar…
It was extremely simple to make. Just mix one beer with the bread mix and stir with a wooden spoon. Grease and flour a bread pan, pour and bake in a 375 degree pre-heated oven for 45 minutes. It only took less than five minutes to prepare.
A word of caution to my Diabetic friends. While the bread contains NO FAT and only 110 calories, it does have 33 grams of carbohydrates per slice. As with anything, moderation is the key. I had a half-slice with my low carbohydrate dinner.
So there you have it. Quick, EZ and delicious beer bread! Go ahead, give it a try…already have, what did you think?

Actually, I could just beerly taste the beer!
Perhaps if I had used a more full flavored beer, it would have had more of a beer flavor. I don’t think it was very bitter, just good!

I thought it was ‘frankenstein’ bread. Just kidding! LOL

Haven’t eaten a beer bread. Do you get inebriated if you eat too much of the franken bread? Just wondering…

Oh, it was Frankenstein bread Junezach! My wife said the unusual shape was typical in homemade bread. No, the alcohol cooks off and all that is left is a slight beer flavor. It only has a fairly mild beer flavor.

Well, I saw it at Walmart before I received it as a gift. But it may be a seasonal item, only available around Christmas. But in googling it, I found plenty of recipes!

That picture looks like some of the bread that I used to make. Glad it tasted all right. Most home made bread is really good. I used to make bread from scratch and sell it to friends of mine and I made quite a bit of money. That was back in the dark ages before there were so many bakeries. But I still think that any food made from scratch is so good.

I don’t like beer, but I’ve always wanted to try beer bread – for me, I think beer would make a better flavoring than a drink.
Hm. I like champagne. I wonder if there is such a thing as champagne bread?

I think you would like the beer bread, as there is only a slight beer flavor. BUT, you’re in luck! I found a champagne bread recipe here: http://www.abreadaday.com/?p=1138
Enjoy!

So, did you get a nice “bread buzz” after eating that? lol I know that the alcohol evaporates when cooking, but hey, one can always hope, right?
This sounds interesting, and I’ll have to try it some time. I might try to see how well two beers will work in that recipe, though….

Looking at the picture makes me think about a dish that my dad used to cook way back when I was a kid. My dad was an army man back in the day and he said that this particular dish was served regularly in the mess halls. It was called “SOS”. Which stands for “S*** on Shingles”. It was great because the brown gravy that was poured over either biscuits or slices of bread was made with the bacon fat that he had collected over a weeks worth of breakfasts. Boy, my mouth is watering and the back of my neck is hardening just thinking about it. Work harder than you have to taking care my friend. ;o)

It looks like just normal regular bread mix will do the trick. So I guess instead of using wine to flavour dishes we can also just use a six-pack? Not as fancy but still a good way to get that beer taste and liven up “dry” bread!

I a not a huge beer fan, but I do love bread and wine. Is there a red wine bread too?

Always wanted to try beer bread but thought it will be time consuming to make. I don’t think the mix is sold at the regular supermarkets though…
