You make an effort to “drop” on all of your favorite blogs everyday. Day in and day out. You NEVER miss a beat. NEVER. At the end of the month, you don’t make a single “Top Dropper” list. Sound familiar? It does to me too. I feel your pain!
I received a comment the other day from one of my readers. Well, not just any reader. The author of one of my favorite blogs, Random Ramblings. Polly has been a daily visitor to EZGreatLife for as long as I can remember. She drops her Entrecard everyday, faithfully.
Polly wrote:
“Hi John, This may sound like a little winge (an Ozzie expression for a gripe or a moan), however, it isn’t meant to be. Like many of the overseas bloggers, I visit your blog and other blogs across the US on a daily basis. One thing that I have noticed regarding Entrecard top ten listings however is that even if you drop on blogs across the pond every single day – the chances are is that your blog is never listed in the top ten.
So this is just to let you and other bloggers know that there are many of us over here who drop on blogs on a daily basis but are left in the cinders rather than the top droppers listings.
Thank you for your regular drop onto my blog, I really appreciate it and everyone else’s welcomed visits.
Have a wonderful 2010!!”
I too find it odd that she never shows up on my Top 10 list in the Entrecard control panel. Odd indeed, but she’s not alone. There are many, many blogs that drop everyday that have never made it into the top 10. Ed Zee from Owning a Cafe, commented recently “I wonder if the eleventh and so on also had 31 drops last month.” Well Ed, the answer is “yes”. I have spot checked from time to time and have found 30-40 of my “top droppers” hit 31 visits. I don’t know if you have ever tried to research this, but it’s not easy. A couple of times in the past I have posted the top 20 droppers. But, as I said, it’s not an easy chore to identify the blogs beyond the top 10. Entrecard ought to develop a simple way to identify the top 50 or 100 droppers with drop counts.
As far as I can tell, making it into the top 10 list happens with the luck of the draw. It seems to be all about timing. It looks to me like the most recent droppers to hit the highest visit count, make the list. Anyone know for sure how Entrecard creates the top 10 list?
Back to Polly’s comment, I don’t think that it has to do with being “across the pond”. I say this because Cornyman had 3 of his blogs in the top 10 in December. As many of you may know, Cornyman lives in Germany. Again, I think it has to do with the timing of when we check the top 10.
With all of that being said, I just want to let everyone know that I appreciate all of my faithful visitors, advertisers, commentors and droppers. I would like to offer you a BIG “Thank You!”
Has anyone found an easy way to identify the top droppers with drop counts, beyond the first 10? If so, please share!
Two Side Notes
1.) Google has restored my PR mojo! I am officially a PR3 again! Yay!
2.) To celebrate, I am offering a bonus of 3000ec to anyone who places a paid ad on EZGreatLife in the month of January. That’s 10 days of dropping to you and me! You can purchase an ad here.

John, I also wonder why my 2 blogs — Business Sphere and One World Realty — were not included in your list of Top 10 Droppers for December 2009.
In fact, I was dropping on your site day in and day out, without fail, since Dec. 1 to Dec. 31. I never missed a single day drop because I dropped in my law office during lunch time, as a stress reliever from my lawyering and in my house on Saturdays and Sundays. Even last Christmas I dropped cards.
I think it has something to do with the precise or particular moment of the last day of the month when you check your list of Top Droppers in the Statistics. I have observed that the list of the Top Droppers changes every 30 minutes.

Eli, I also have noticed that you drop everyday, but have not appeared in the top 10. Like I stated, I seem to have 30-40 blogs that drop everyday, so I guess it’s just a timing issue, with all of these blogs rotating in and out of the list as they drop and the list is refreshed. I’m sorry that you have not been included! Not that it will make you feel any better, but I have only missed the 300 drops two or three times in the last six months. I dropped on Christmas and New Years day. I don’t think I appeared on anyone’s list in December. If it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all!
Thanks for all your dedication and visits to my blog. It is much appreciated!

I really could not pinpoint the exact formula of how Entrecard gets the Top Ten Droppers. I also post regularly the top ten droppers of every month. Please take note that excluding February, there are months that have 30 days and some have 31 days. As I have observed, the Entrecard system refreshes at 12 MN (EST). I would usually get the top ten droppers one second before the server refreshes to make sure I got the correct data. Hehehe! That makes things easier for me to get the most accurate results.
You can actually check the top 25 droppers on your blog by clicking the RSS Feed in “Top card droppers”, the orange icon.
We are on different timezones so anytime the top ten droppers would change depending on the time a consistent-never-miss-dropping dropper drops on your blog.

Hi JuneZach! You definitely should be in the top 10! You are one of the many dedicated droppers I see everyday. I use the RSS feed to spot check the top 25, however, it is VERY cumbersome to identify the number of drops. You have to click on each blog individually and then click on their Entrecard widget to get to the number of drops. It seems like it would be easy to include the drop number in the RSS feed? On a side note, it seems like the top droppers always have 31 drops, whether the month has 30 or 31 days? Anyway, thanks for all your visits and drops!

Hi John,
even the RSS Feed on my blogs are different from the TOP 10 list of Entrecard.
But it most likely depends when you are looking at the statistics. Like June said, you should do it some seconds before the Drops change to Zero on the last day of the month.
Like in my case most of the 25 members who are displayed in my sidebar (from Dropaholics) have 31 drops, so it’s difficult for new members to jump into this list.
I had the same issue with First Door on the Left’s list. Usually i appear there for a few hours and then i’m buried on rank 26 or lower until i drop the next day again.

I think it has something to do with how many months someone has had a perfect drop rate on a blog. How the ties are worked out I don’t have any idea. This would be very interesting to know.
I often check my top 25 through the RSS link and make sure I am dropping on those blogs regularly. The 25th blog on my list dropped on my blog 29 times in the last 30 days. The 10th blog on in the top 10 list dropped 30 times in the past 30 days. You probably just missed my top 25 list at 28 times in the last 30 days.
Interesting topic. I am interested in hearing how others think EC calculates the top 10.

Question of the year, lol! I have often wondered the same thing.
Each month, as you see the various E carders posting their top dropper lists, you scan for your own blog’s name. When you don’t see it, and know that you dropped on that person faithfully for all 31 days, you really do scratch your head. It never occurred to me that there was some type of rotational system or such….and that out of say, 40 31 day droppers, it all depends on what day or time they’re checking the stats, or how many months you’ve dropped them consistently that determines who does end up in the top ten. Interesting!

Hey John, great blog. As a realnewbie, I can learn a lot from you. As a realnewbie (Jan will be 1st full month in blogosphere), I really don’t know any Entrecard, or Adgitize ins and outs, yet, I want to. All I do know is I want great content, create loyal followers, drive traffic, possibly make some coin. I do know, that on the eve, of the end of January, I will post my top 10droppers. If I could make it my top 50, I would, Entrecard could help, if you read this, please. For now I will drop in on your friends above. Peace.

Yep, every single month, I say the same thing you just posted about. I put up my top droppers every month, yet I never end up on any. I simply am going to stop posting them, and switch to my best Entrecard advertisers. I still won’t make any top ten drop lists, but at least it won’t annoy me as much.

Well this was very interesting. Until now, I wasn’t dropping as much as I should have. Now I am dropping on a bunch every day. I am still learning how all this works. So this is all good info. In other words, don’t feel bad if you aren’t in the top ten droppers on peoples sites.

Hi John,
I know what you mean and I have wondered how EC determines who makes it into the Top 10. I would like to see at least a Top 20. I don’t think it has to do anything with location but more about timing. The only thing you can do is just drop and see what happens at the end of the month.
Take care,
Apollo

John I feel your pain, especially how I have turned over the drops to my wife, who actually enjoys doing them, thank you lord. But we use the same drop list and I know we have yet to miss a 300 day in over 75 days. So there is no way to figure out who is actually in the top ten. Perhaps EC could make the list larger and just put down every blog that has made it for everyday in the month? Naaa, I doubt EC would actually do such a list. It would call for work and also they would have to answer to someone. But it’s worth a shot, huh?
Either way I think your blog is on MANY top tens, regardless of EC and drops.

I do think it’s a math thing. I drop on at least 100 sites regularly every day, day in and day out (I drop more than that, but the rest of them change from day to day). Not all these sites have an EC top ten list (Sparkle’s site doesn’t – she’s a cat, she doesn’t care about that sort of thing, LOL!), but a lot do. And I see far more than 10 bloggers dropping on Sparkle’s site on an every day basis. So there’s no way I can wind up on to Top Dropper list of every blog I visit daily, and if I were to have a Top Dropper list on Sparkle’s blog, there’s no way every regular dropper could make her Top Ten.
How EC figures the Top Ten, I have no idea. I’ve only been there a little over a month and was really surprised that Sparkle wound up on one blogger’s Top list! I take the attitude of, “Well, I don’t really expect it, the sheer volume of numbers is against it, so if I do get on someone’s list, it’s a very pleasant surprise!”

I never really throught about this until you posted this. I have thought, on occasion, that I should be in a ‘top 10′ here and there, but I just put it down to me not clicking for a day or something. Now I wonder…
Mmm.

Thank you very much, John, for discussing my comment on EC’s Top Ten Droppers in your blog. We all know who our top droppers are and EC statistics maybe differ with it but the good thing is all enjoy visiting each other.
In my case, I have yet to publish the top droppers on my site and I want to say sorry, by way of this comment, that I have not acknowledged them ever since because I have not yet found a space for it in my blog.

Wow that seems really unfair. You think Entrecard would have some sort of system worked out so that the people who drop everyday get the credit they deserve. It seems like to get in the top ten you have to win the lottery or something.
