Holiday Traditions: Decorating Our Tree

Christmas tree bulbs

One of my favorite holiday traditions is decorating our family Christmas tree. Every year we all get together, eat some great food, play some of our favorite Christmas tunes and decorate away! My son and his girlfriend joined us last weekend for the occasion and we had a great time.

We were a little later than usual this year, although not by much. Call me old fashioned, but I don’t like decorating for the holidays at the end of Summer. Seriously though, if we put up our decorations as early as some, I would be completely burned out by the time Christmas day arrived. Call me crazy, but I like to enjoy one holiday at a time.

Do you have any long standing holiday traditions? When do you start preparing for the holidays?

While you’re thinking about that, here are some pictures from last weekend.

I’m sure decorating together was fun! I usually decorate all by myself–but my husband just is afraid he’ll break something so just lets me do it. I like to get the tree up the first week of December so we have a month to enjoy it and take it down on New Year’s Day.

    Hi John,
Sounds like a lot of family fun together. I enjoyed your pictures and you have a pretty Christmas tree. We have no traditions and this year the kids decorated the tree themselves, the day after Thanksgiving. It was kinda early for me to have the tree out, but the kids were in the Christmas spirit already. Happy Holidays! :-)

I didn’t help decorate our tree this year, but my little brother and sister did a pretty good job between them ;) We don’t have flash decorations so our tree looks very haphazard once it’s been decorated.

Sounds like a great get together. And your tree is really nice. I don’t have any special traditions, except for all my silly stuffed Rudolphs. I especially like the ones that sing.
We just have a little tree on the table because there are a lot of cats that live here.

We put ours up the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I like to have it up a little early and I like to take it down right after Christmas. I don’t really keep it up to long after wards. The traditions we have are my husband does the lights, the kids and I (esp. my daughter) put on the decorations, some of which are special to each individual and do it while listening to Christmas music.
