The Weather Channel dubbed the severe nor’easter that hit Thursday, the “Atlantic Assault”. While not the worst storm we’ve seen here in Hampton Roads, the damage to some neighborhoods and business’ was significant. It was intense. My family was very fortunate to have experienced little damage.
The storm has passed. Although, it’s still drizzling right now and everything is soaking wet. At the height of the nor’easter, we experienced a storm surge of 7.74 feet, which caused wide spread flooding. Wind speeds reached 75 mph. Some areas received more than 10 inches of rain. More than 178,000 customers were without power in southeast Virginia on Thursday evening. Governor Kaine declared a state of emergency.
Friday morning I decided to head down to the ocean front and check out the storm. Winds were still in excess of 50 mph, that according to the Weather Channel team I ran into. Additionally, I shot a few pics on the way into work. Here is some of what I found.

Just got off the phone with my Dad. He lives in the Hampton Roads area. The home is in the highlands area and he can not step a foot out the door because of the water. Stated he has never seen it that bad. Heard Ocean Eddies was damaged, it that true? I really love eating there. Great photos.

Those are terrific pictures. That same storm came through here and left 4 inches of rain. Both my barns flooded and I had ponds all over the place but we didn’t get the damage that you got. Glad evreyone is all right.
