Bottle House: Rhyolite, Nevada - 2003

Our kids in front of a house built in 1906 out of 50,000 beer, whiskey, soda and medicine bottles. It’s in the ghost town of Rhyolite, Nevada, just outside Death Valley National Park. Picture taken in 2003.

Yes, it is a great way to recycle Ann. Apparently, the man that built the house used bottles because wood was very scarce. Great use of resources!

    That’s fantastic!

Actually reminds me of the documentary “Garbage Warrior” where an architect builds sustainable houses off-grid using tires and mud as walls and old bottles as windows.

Cool! I wonder how this is made… or who even thought of creating this house. That’s 50,000 beer, whiskey, soda and medicine bottles… whoever owned that many alcohol and soda really needed a lot of medicines. LOL! Just kidding. :D

Bro, apparently the man did drink many of the bottles, but also collected them from his neighbors.

Thankfully Nevada isn’t known for serious tornadoes huh? Great picture!
