Back in September I asked the question PS3, XBox 360 or Wii – Which Will It Be? I was trying to decide on the right game system for my family. Your overwhelming response was in favor of the Wii. So, in early October, I snatched one of ten from my favorite big box retailer. It was our families big Christmas present.
A major factor in deciding on the Wii was the flexibility in game selections. In addition to all of the Wii sports and exercise games, many traditional PS3 and XBox game titles are also available. We picked up Call of Duty, Madden 09, Star Wars and Tomb Raider. I couldn’t, however, find the ever elusive Mario Cart. Oh, and I’ve been trying! It has been sold out here for months.
It’s been non-stop game playing around here since Christmas. My daughter really enjoys the Wii Fit. While my son and I are all about Call of Duty and Madden. The Bowling, Boxing and Hula Hoop games rock! One of the coolest aspects about many of the games is the physical activity. Video game addicted kids (and adults) are actually getting some exercise! I know, I know, I’m geek excited. I’m a Wii bit late. Your enthusiasm may have already passed. But this thing is awesome! If you don’t already have one, I would recommend getting a Wii as soon as possible! It is loads of fun and exercise, that your entire family can enjoy!
Does your family have a Wii? How would you rate your Wii experience? Does anyone know what Wii stands for?
My name is John.

I have heard so many great, great, great things about the Wii so it looks like it might be time to look into getting one. Cute title and glad you are enjoying it.

I totally agree. All my friends have the Nintendo Wii and the Wii fit, and I am so jealous. I really need to go out and buy one.

The Wii is tons of fun and very addictive. Just BE careful, my 9 year old was playing a game when the hand control went flying into our brand new beautiful 63″ plasma – RUINED – it was only 4 mos old. This made me curious about what type of injuries are inflicted and I came across some disurbing facts. http://lawprofessors.typepad.com/healthlawprof_blog/2008/12/beware-wii-inju.html
They have blogs dedicated to wii injuries:

Sorry to hear about your plasma. My daughter babysits my 10 year old nephew and it makes me nervous with them playing while I’m not home. We have a house rule that you have to wear the wrist straps, but who knows?!?

John nice to see you enjoying the Wii with your family. I heard wii fit is great. I agree with you that combining exercise with video games is pretty much the best idea nintendo and the gaming industry has ever had.

Sounds like another Wii success story here! I’d love to try one first before putting all that money into it. This is the first I’ve heard that you can play Madden on it though. Good to know.

I didn’t realize that you could play games like Madden either until I started researching it. I don’t know how it compares to other versions, but I would say it’s great!

I love the Wii – the exercise games – especially Wii Fit of course – are great for me — plus my young daughter can play Dora and Diego and Disney games easily. BUT – the graphics aren’t anywhere near as good as PS3 – sooo – since I decided I needed a Blu-Ray player, and since CNET recommended PS3 for Blu-Ray — now I have both systems. I am a sad — but happy – little man.

Isn’t it FUN? We got the Wii Fit for Christmas and everyone has been using it daily. Hubby and I are going crazy trying to beat each other’s rankings. I finally had to give up trying to beat him in the Ski Jump. I love the aerobics part of the game. I tried the 10-min. Super Hulahoop and swore that would be the last time I am doing it. It is a killer! My 4-yr old loves to do the running. For kids, they had to follow the dog instead of the Mii.

I love the Wii. I think it is a great family time activity. Many people are against video games but the Wii really gets kids more active. We have Mario Kart but we have not been able to find a Wii Fit. Our favorite game right now is Rock Band. Playing all together is a lot more fun than just sitting and watching television together. The kids also get a kick out of seeing me sing stuff like Metalica.

You wouldn’t believe how my husband searched high and low for Wii Sports
. He finally was able to order from amazon.com and it was delivered before Christmas. We enjoyed playing the bowling during our Christmas party with friends. And it is our favorite after dinner activity with our 2 1/2 y/o toddler joining in the fun. This is an excellent invention!

Christmas 07 we purchased a PS3 for the kids but then struggled to find many games suitable for out 6 year old, many appear to be targeted at adults. We then stayed with friends for a few days and they had a Wii, oh that short stay turned out an expensive one. A week or so after returning home I just had to go and get a WII.
It was one of the best purchases we’ve made, the kids love it, we love it and even on New years eve when the inlaws stayed with us we played it all evening (SAD I know).
Until the Wii I never really played on game consoles, since the WII me and the wife are on it most nights, Mario Kart is just so much fun, although when playing online the wife believes everyone is out to get her:)
Welcome to the ‘Addicted to the WII’ club.

I think Nintendo did a great job with the Wii and all the exercise games are a huge hit. The idea behind the Wii was great as more and more kids spend their time in front of gaming consoles and do less of the ‘usual kids stuff’. It is not an excuse not to do other things and parents should not allow their kids to spend 8 hours playing those games but it is a nice addition to the overall ‘arsenal of toys’. Adults will also find plenty of games which makes for a nice after dinner fun night with friends. Personally I am more of a PS user and Madden is always on top of my list but I have played with the idea to get me a Wii..you just can’t get those super fun active games otherwise and I think they are great…hello bi-monthly competition among friends…lol.

I do not play video games at all. More and more, they have become so complicated, you have to invest hours playing the games, just to know what to do on the controllers.

The Wii looks like a ton of fun. I got to see the Wii fit in action over Christmas as one of our cousins received one for the family gift. It looks very addictive and was impressed to see that you could set fitness goals with it. It could be a fun source of activity for people who live in extreme climates or who receive a lot of snow or rain.

Yes, we love the Wii %100. The games like Madden are hard to adjust to and are nothing like the PS3 version at least in my opinion. I do think that I have saved a “buttload” of money by having Wii bowling nights instead of going to the real Bowling Alley.

I had a lot fun playing on the Wii over the Christmas holiday at my relatives house. While it was fun I don’t think I would ever get one, or any other game system for that matter. Life is too short to spend in-front of the television.

I adore our Wii. My boys didn’t like it. (Which was totally disappointing as I searched high and low Christmas of 2007 to find one) After almost a year of it sitting around I finally bought Wii Fit. When it’s raining and I can’t run, or if I need to stay home and can’t hit the gym it’s a pretty good substitute.
I used it so much that my three boys finely tried it. My guys found they liked Yoga. Which for two macho-teenage boys was a great revelation.
The best thing about my Wii Fit, is that it tells me my age is 29! When anyone or anything tells this 40-year old she’s 29 it’s a plus!

We have an xbox, mostly because it was half the price of a wii and it had a few games that my hubby wanted. (It was mostly for him, since his playstation broke and hadn’t had anything for months!)
I do have mario karts though…the originial on a Super NES
I was so surprised this Christmas when I saw some kids playing it on their DS at a party we were at. And strangely enough, they didn’t really change it much at all – Luigi is still the fastest it seemed.

Thanks so much for sharing this. I was concerned my family would “out grow” the WII if we were to purchase it. But it looks like that will be our next big purchase. I love the fact that the whole family can get involved and you aren’t just sitting on your bottom clicking some buttons.
Thanks again! Have a great day!

I got a Wii around when it first came out, and I absolutely love it. You made a nice choice with CoD. I’ve actually started my own clan that plays online for it, so that shows how much I love that. And btw, if you and your son are into that, be sure to get the Conduit when it comes out this June. It is going to set new standards for first person shooters.
