As I write this post, Tropical Storm Hanna is passing overhead. We are experiencing 40-60 MPH wind gusts and heavy rain on and off. My once beautiful Elephant Ears and Banana Trees are taking a beating! I just lost power briefly. Luckily, the storm has almost passed through the area.
I have been watching the storm coverage on the news all morning. One of the stories that caught my eye was on the Red Cross and how they are going to need to increase their current level of donations to help all of the storm victims of Hurricane Gustav, Tropical Storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike. As I am sure you are aware, Haiti has been devastated over the past two weeks from Gustav and Hanna. Florida, Louisiana and the whole Gulf Coast have taken a real beating as well. There are tens of thousands of victims and Ike is expected to cause even more devastation.
I decided to check out the Red Cross website and see how I could help. I found the section on taking donations through your website and I signed up. I am going to make a personal donation and I encourage you to do the same. Every little bit counts! Thanks for your support!

Hi John,
I hope the Tropical Storm Hanna didn’t do much damage at your home and that your family is safe. I never did like winds coming that fast. I had experienced it one time, looking outside my bedroom window. The sky was black with nothing but a bunch of leaves swirling around. We were lucky all it did was crack our window and there were a bunch of debris in our yard. Up the road trees were split down and some houses had some damage. A small tornado had went through, I hope I never see this again. I didn’t mean to get off the subject of the hurricanes. I have always thought the American Red Cross is a good cause to help people in need. I hope these victims, from these bad storms, get the help they need.

Hi Robin,
We made it through the storm with very little damage, thank goodness! My banana tree leaves are shredded up! Our neighbor across the street lost some tree limbs. We have had much worse storms in the past. I just hope we make it through the rest of hurricane season without any huge storms.
