I especially like the "2nd Stream of Income"-idea.

Anyone knows something special - so creat an info product around your knowledge and sell it on the Internet.

Genie - That's great! I don't mean the broken disposal, but the fact that you tried and had problems. That is the best way to learn how to Do-It-Yourself (DYI). Consider it a learning experience and your next project will go a little smoother. When I first started fixing things around the house, I had all kinds of problems. One time, my hot water heater burst, pouring water all over my den. I grabbed a pair of pliers and tried to turn off the water. The valve broke, spraying water everywhere, including inside the wall. Remember the opening scene to that old TV show "The Incredible Hulk"? That was me without the green! I had to run to the street and shut the main water line off. Then I called a plumber. =) Live and learn! But now, I do many of the projects around the house. Not long ago I put in our new dishwasher. Don't give up, DYI !!!

A pipe disintegrated under the kitchen sink, so we decided to be handy, save a few bucks and fix it ourselves – especially since it was a weekend and we didn’t want to pay emergency weekend rates. We were so proud that we were able to take out what was left of the old pipe, pick out the new pipe at the Depot and even install it with no problem – but then we tried to hook the new pipe up to the disposal and wouldn’t you know – the disposal broke. That seems to be what happens when we try the Do It Yourself route. It was worth trying it ourselves, but I guess we need more practice!

Genie - Auto's are almost definitely the 2nd largest purchase of most people’s lives today! It's unbelievable what an average new car costs! I'll share this with you; I have not purchased a "new" vehicle since I was 21 years old. Nope, late model, used cars for this guy!

You make a good point about the car being a bad “investment”! I never thought of it like that before. I remember always hearing that a car will be the second largest investment of my life – second only to a home. But homes are almost always good investments. The more I think of it, the more I think you’re right that a car isn’t a good investment. It is a necessity that we have to sink money into, at least where I live – but not a good investment. I was thinking of buying a new car next time, but I guess it is really a better idea to let someone else take the hit on that first or second year depreciation.
