Every year at this time I find myself thinking about my family and how fortunate we are to have each other. How wonderful it is to have loved ones who care for you and whom you deeply care about. It is also the time of year I find myself thinking of those less [financially] fortunate than our family. AND how we can help others and make a difference in someones life. As it happens, I was logging into BlogCatalog today and came across the Bloggers Unite, Brown Bag Project. The projects objective is to give the gift of food to those who are hungry. A worthy cause, in my opinion, especially in [financial] times like these. [continue reading…]

As some of you may know, I quit smoking 12 years, 9 months, and 30 days ago. That according to my sidebar reminder. But who’s counting? It was one of the hardest things I have ever done. At the same time, it was one of my most rewarding accomplishments. Every November, smokers across the nation take part in the Great American Smokeout by smoking less or quitting for the day. The Great American Smokeout takes place on the third Thursday before Thanksgiving. Today’s the day to quit! [continue reading…]

The Weather Channel dubbed the severe nor’easter that hit Thursday, the “Atlantic Assault”. While not the worst storm we’ve seen here in Hampton Roads, the damage to some neighborhoods and business’ was significant. It was intense. My family was very fortunate to have experienced little damage.

If you have been snoopin around my playground for a while, you know I have frequently written about my pets. Especially my little puppy dog Missy. That’s because Missy is an important part of our family. Yes, she is a family member. Those of you without a close family pet, probably think that’s a little strange. Those of you who identify your canine and/or feline companion as one of the kids, know what I’m talking about! If you refer to yourself as your pets “Mommy” or “Daddy”, please proceed!

Are you looking for a healthy snack. Something to take the edge off. One that may help prevent heart disease, help lower cholesterol and aid in weight loss. How about improving your overall health. Sound good? Look no further than the pecan. Pecans are loaded with vitamins and minerals, contain key antioxidants and are a great source of protein.
I eat several snacks between meals throughout the day. I try to mix it up with fruits, veggies, yogurt and nuts. Pecans are among my favorites. A delicious little snack!

Our puppy dog Missy. We adopted her from the local SPCA. Anytime we say “Treats!” or “Want to go bye-bye?”, Missy tilts her head…very cute!
