About a month ago, a comment on one of my posts caught my eye. It was a funny quip, short and sweet. Like I tend to do, I followed the author back to his blog and read his latest post. I had a few laughs, got side tracked and moved on. A few days later, I noticed the same guy had left another comment. Following that, I started noticing his comments all over the place. Sometimes short and sweet, sometimes long and detailed, but almost always thought provoking, funny and REAL. I decided to give his blog a second look. [continue and comment…]

I wouldn’t have believed it, if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. We actually got a decent size snow storm here in Virginia Beach today. The weather man was calling for 8-12 inches. We have about 7 inches on the ground right now and it’s supposed to keep snowing all night, into the morning hours. Normally, when the “man” calls for snow here in VB, we get rain or sun or ANYTHING, but snow. [continue and comment…]

Trying to decide the winners of my 2 year blogiversary non-contest- contest was no easy task! I received a total of 92 comments on 6 posts. There were so many thoughtful, intelligent comments, I wish I had 20000 ec’s to give out! I am increasing the total ec’s to 11000 so that I can give 500ec’s to the runners up. I took the number of comments and the totally subjective “quality comment” into consideration to choose the following winners. I decided to give everyone some link love in addition to the EC prizes. Also, I’m trying to get around to everyone’s blogs and make a comment or two… [continue and comment…]

The Boston Massacre was the killing of five colonists by British soldiers on March 5, 1770. Here my daughter re-enacts the events of that day at the original sight…my family is just a little weird.

Last week, as I was strolling through the frozen food section of my favorite grocery store, I over heard a young one telling his Mom that he wanted a magazine. He was probably about eight or so. I don’t know, I’m a terrible judge of ages, but let’s go with it. Very calmly, with a smile, she told him “No.” Like all eight year olds, this boy was persistent. He didn’t take “No.” for an answer. Good for him, I thought! He’ll probably grow up to be a great negotiator one day. [continue and comment…]

I have never been a big breakfast fan. For years after childhood, I avoided breakfast like the plague. I’m just not hungry in the morning. Food is not the least bit appealing to me at dark-thirty when I rise out of bed. This remained true until a couple of years ago. I was researching weight loss and came across several articles on the importance of starting off your day with a good breakfast. I have been a faithful breakfast eater ever since. Locked up in Salem, Massachusetts – July 2009

It’s 7:00A.M. and I’m tired. I stumble into the shower and stand under the hot, steamy water. I get almost done and the water goes ice cold. I mean bone-chilling cold. I hurry and finish, get dressed and rush off to work. I get busy and forget about my morning problem. The next day, I’m showering once again, the water is hot as can be. I remembered that yesterday the water had gone icy cold. Must have been a fluke, I thought, as the water is plenty hot today. Fast forward to day number three… it was like the movie Groundhog Day. I get almost done with my shower and the water goes cold. This is crazy, I thought. So naturally, I called a plumber. [continue and comment…]
Top 10 Entrecard Droppers: The New Deal
Top 10 Entrecard Droppers: January 2010
I’m going to mix things up a little this month. Following my post Mail Bag: Entrecard Woes I did a lot of thinking on how to make my recognition of the Top Droppers more fair. Thanks to everyone for all the feedback. I think we all came to the conclusion that the top 10 as listed on Entrecard’s site is based purely on luck and timing. With that being said, I came up with “The New Deal.” No, I’m not going to turn over my Entrecard credits to the government and let them redistribute them as they see fit. What I have decided to do is use random.org to pick 10 numbers between 1 and 25. They were as follows: 21, 5, 25 11, 17 13, 23, 2, 8 & 19, picked in that order. I then took the Entrecard top 25 RSS feed from 2/1 and grabbed the links to create my Top 10 Entrecard Droppers for January 2010. [continue and comment…]
